Echinops ~ Globe Thistle

With its unusual shape, texture, and color, globe thistle adds much interest to both the garden and vase.  The foliage definately resembles a thistle, so this plant might work better in a cottage garden rather than a formal garden.

Growing information:

Hardy zones 3 - 8

Height - 30″ to 48″

Bloom time - mid to late summer

Plant in average, well drained soil.  Drought tolerant.

Good for fresh cut flowers or dried.

Alchemilla Mollis ~ Lady’s Mantle

Lady's mantle

Lady’s Mantle can add great texture to a sun or shade garden. The leaves glisten every morning with dew collected from the night before, sparkling like jewels. The chartreuse flowers are small and make a nice filler for bouquets; they can also be dried.

Growing information:

Hardy zone 3-8

Blooms in late spring to early summer

Height - 12″ - 16″

Full sun to full shade, enjoys moisture
